How Do You Define Yourself?

by Robert Rizzo | Twitter, Facebook,

As a result of our ever-changing economic times, many people are finding their jobs less secure than ever before. Companies across the nation are downsizing, resizing, and resetting their organizations in an attempt to remain competitive or even survive. So you may have found yourself doing a job you never expected, for less salary than you expected and feeling like you are one of the lucky ones. Or you may have lost your job entirely and are praying you will find a new one.

So I ask…what defines you? If you are defined by the clothes you wear, the car you drive, the address where you happen to reside or the title you possess at work, these could be very scary times indeed. But to live with confidence in times of uncertainty we must find our true purpose and passion in a higher calling or virtue than simply titles and possessions.

Remember that life is a journey and where you are right now is not your final destination. The key is to keep moving, even if you are not sure where the journey will take you.

Even if you are on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.
Will Rogers

Then get your mind off yourself. Your intrinsic worth should be a measure of what you do for others not what others do for you.

Ask yourself three questions:

  1. How does my current situation fit into the context of my life and eternity?
  2. What do I truly value and how can I do more of that?
  3. Who do I truly value and how can I express it to them?

Life is a journey. Don’t lose your dream.
